Step by step
How it works
Step by step, to the finished piece
Upload your piece’s model (STL, OBJ or 3MF) or pick an example vessel.
Choose how many pieces the mold splits into, the pour spout and the material you’ll cast.
Print one base per piece, the walls and the clamps. Assemble the walls on a base and pour the plaster.
Once it sets, move the walls to the next base and cast the next piece. At the end, put the plaster pieces together.
What to watch out for
- Testing: the bases and the pour spout haven’t been cast with real plaster yet. Print one base first and check that it fits.
- Reference values taken from published ranges. Every clay, plaster or mix has its own: measure yours with a test bar and type it in the field.
What you need
Materials and tools
- A filament (FDM) 3D printer
- PLA or PETG filament
- The 3D model of your figure, as an STL
- Mold-making plaster
- A release agent so the plaster doesn't grip the cradle
